“If you can make it in Code Jam here, you can make it anywhere!” quipped Google’s New York director of engineering as Google this week announced announced the opening of its annual online coding competition, “Google Code Jam” - which presents participants worldwide with a series of challenges that they must use their programming skills and creativity to solve.
“Google is proud to support these amazing coders as they take on some of the world’s most challenging programming problems, and we’re pleased to have the chance to introduce them to our research and development offices around the world,” said Alan Eustace, Google’s SVP of Engineering.
Programmers ready to match their skills against the world’s best, Eustace said, can register at http://www.google.com/codejam2006.
The top 100 contestants win an all-expenses paid trip to New York City to compete in the finals at Google’s New York Engineering Office, the first year the finals have ever been held in New York.
The Grand Prize is $10,000, with 9 prizes of $5,000 after that, 15 of $2,500 after that and so on down the pecking order until $155,000 in prize money has been divided. Even coming 100th out of 100 will earn the coder concerned $750!
Last year, more than 14,500 competitors from 32 countries took part in the Google Code Jam, and a Polish programmer took home the grand prize.
